Eponalia

Happy Eponalia, my friends! It just so happens that today, 18 December is the day when the Celtic Pagans used to celebrate Epona, the horse goddess. Traditionally, this means a day of total rest from all labour (especially for horses!).

I'm obviously not sticking to that 100% since I'm on here blogging... but to be fair, I'm only doing it because I enjoy it so it doesn't feel like work.

As it happens, I had already planned a fast for Tuesday and Wednesday this week. I also intended for Wednesday to be a day of rest... before I found out about about Epona'a day of rest, thanks to Caitlín Matthew's wonderful blog post. Maybe that was my Celtic blood speaking to me. My maternal grandfather's family immigrated to Sweden from Belgium in the 1600's.

I will honour all my ancestors on this blog, by the way - not just my Norse and Sámi ancestors. We are all one family, as far as I am concerned, and I recognise all the Pagan Gods because the Divine speaks to us in ways that make cultural sense to us.

I wonder if my horse-loving friends know they have their own day of celebration? I'll have to let them know!

'XV Kalendas Ianuarius Eponae'
Fifteen days [before] the beginning of January - Epona's Day
(a stone inscription from northern Italy)

Earthlight glistens
on the ivy leaf

Sunlight falls
on the holly bough

The red fire stirs
in the kindling

We count three days
to the longest night

Three more till the glimmer
of a longer day

Then seven to the eve
of New Year Calends

These days we count
from the feast of Epona

First festival
of the year's turning.

Do White People Have a Right to Reclaim their Ancestral and Tribal Roots?

Today, I'm blogging a response to an article on Medium because I stumbled on this article right after my daily Oracle post (which was very much about reclaiming ancestral roots), and felt deeply moved to rebutt the notion that white people have no right to reclaim their ancestry or tribal roots.

The author of the original article makes a lot of very strong statements, lumping all 'white people' together:

"White people already have a bunch of ancestry. We’ve recorded it for centuries. Other peoples are not so fortunate because white supremacists ensured that they would not have family history through slavery or genocide.
So all that you’re doing by 'reclaiming ancestry' is defining something that can be used to discriminate against others, NOT of your ancestry, and put us all into categories.
I say, drop the idea RIGHT NOW, that anyone is 'reclaiming' anything. You are already white."
The article is quite obviously written by an American becaus…

Happy Odin's day, my friends. I thought I'd get the March pick-a-pile rune and Tarot readings out to you a couple of days early this time. For this month's readings we are working with Legend - The Arthurian Tarot (affiliate link) and the set of runes I made a couple of weeks ago.

Mercury is still retrograde at the start of the month. For guidance on the current retrograde and a bespoke Tarot spread, chek out this post. Mercury stations direct on the 4th of March.

Mars is a big player this month, conjuncting the current stellium of planets in Capricorn and re-energising issues we dealt with back in January, some of which we will be forced to revisit - hopefully with a better outcome this time!

The March Super Full Moon in Virgo happens on 9 March at 17:37 GMT. If you feel you need more info on this lunation, I recommend this video by Pam Gregory.

February Forecasts Pick-a-Pile Rune, Tarot and Oracle Readings

Hello my friends, I hope you are well and looking forward to all that February will bring. I think we can all safely say that we are glad to see the back of January that lasted forever and seemed to bring very little but bad news and ends with the UK divorcing the EU + concomitant threats of continued austerity. This morning I came across a relatable tweet where someone said:

"I have come to the end of my free one month subscription for 2020 and would like to cancel the subscription."

Okay, so January was tough for many of us both individually and on a global level but quitting is not an option.

Resisting the bad just makes it last longer, both in the subjective (time is relative) and the objective sense. Time to shift gears and begin to look forward to spring and what we can actually DO to make this world a bit better...

The February Full Moon in Leo happens on 9 Feb at 07:33 GMT. For astrological forecasts for your respective Sun and Rising signs, I recommend Nightlight As…
